An homage to the pebbles from the Hudson that make each bottle of GRAVEL unique. When Michael Knudsen was walking along the Hudson River in the mid-1950s, he came up with the idea of using gravel from the Hudson River to create a unique brand and stand out from the standard perfumery. Since that day, Knudsen made GRAVEL the focus of his perfumery.

GRAVEL Hudson River NY is one of GRAVEL's later creations and refers to the pebbles that make each bottle unique and are still added by hand. The idea for the name Gravel came from a walk Michael Knudsen took along the Hudson River, where he first took pebbles from the Hudson and added them to a perfume. It was on this day that the concept for Gravel was born. The idea behind it was to make perfume more interesting for men in the USA, since back then men rejected perfume in the USA. This was to change in the late 50s and early 60s thanks to Gravel. After the success of A Man's Cologne, which was the first men's perfume in the USA, he kept the concept of gravel in each flacon and built the Gravel brand, around the ingredient gravel, for men’s fragrances, women’s fragrances as well as unisex perfumes.
This initially fresh, floral fragrance unfolds its full aromas after a short period on the skin and develops a woody, spicy note that is rounded off by a subtle vanilla note.
Gravel New York 1957 is only available in selected boutiques.

The fragrance notes of GRAVEL HUDSON RIVER NY

Bergamot

Is obtained from the peel of the still unripe bergamot fruit by cold pressing. The essential bergamot oil is characterized by a fresh, tangy, tart, fruity fragrance.

Geranium

Geranium essential oil, or pelargonium oil, is made from the leaves of scented geraniums and scented pelargonium species, especially rose geranium (Pelargonium graveolens). The fragrance has a green, somewhat rose-scented scent with fruity hints. Geranium is used for rose perfumes, chypre, fougère and other perfume creations.

Lavender

Lavender oil is obtained by distillation. Depending on the variety, lavender smells fresh, balsamic-sweet to herbaceous with woody-floral notes. The scent is often used in fresh fragrances, colognes and summer scents. Especially fougére fragrances (lavender, bergamot, geranium) use the aroma of the violet plant.

Coriander

Is extracted from the fruits of the corianderThe essential oil is characterised by a spicy - floral scent and is popularly used in perfumery in floral, green and chypre fragrances.

Cardamom

The essential oil of cardamom is extracted from the seeds or fruits by steam distillation. It smells fresh, spicy and aromatic.

Tonka bean

The fragrance is extracted from the tonka bean. Possesses a sweetish - heavy note, is also used in cooking. The scent of tonka beans is warm, with light caramel notes and is often used in balsamic masculine fragrances.

Vanilla

The vanilla beans are harvested and fermented. The well-known brown sticks then develop the characteristic vanillin. This sweet, warm, spicy aroma is one of the most popular fragrances in perfumes.

Cedarwood

There are different cedarwood oils of various origins. In perfumery, almost exclusively oils of Atlas cedar, Virginia cedar and Texas cedar are used. The fragrance has a long-lasting, aromatic, woody-sweet scent. Cedarwood is often used as a complementary component in woody, chypre, fougère and tobacco fragrances.
